The Tank Museum is located in Bovington on the site of the World War I tank training centre. It is thought to showcase the best collection of military vehicles in the world. There are more than 300 tanks on display, including Little Willie, the first tank ever produced.

There are 6 exhibition halls which house every vehicle that has ever been used in modern war. The museum continues to be a source of information for the armed forces. It is used to educate serving soldiers on historic vehicles as well as the modern Challenger 2 tank.

You can walk around the halls and explore the vehicles at your leisure or join one of the guided tours and talks, which are provided free of charge. Visitors can also enjoy a ride on an armoured vehicles around the grounds of the museum for an additional fee.

A fantastic family day out

The Tank museum offers a fantastic day out for tank enthusiasts as well as younger members of the family. Throughout the exhibitions there are interactive displays geared at engaging children, through a range of video games and puzzles. Little ones can follow the Major Teddington trail around the museum in search of stamps and there are also opportunities for dressing up.

Outside there is an adventure play park with swings and a zip wire – perfect for letting go of pent up energy after exploring the museum. Under 8’s can enjoy an indoor soft play area, located adjacent to our on site cafe. There are also picnic areas if you choose to bring your own packed lunch.

The Tank Museum shop stocks an extensive range of tank paraphernalia, including models, books and smaller pocket money gifts.

World renowned events

Throughout the year the Tank Museum hosts a number of world renowned exhibitions and events, including the extremely popular ‘Tank Fest’ and ‘Tiger Day’.
