Along the coast to Abbotsbury
The coast road between Burton Bradstock and Abbotsbury is often regarded as one of the most scenic drives in the country, and it’s easy to see why, with fantastic views in both directions. Once you get to Abbotsbury, we recommend heading around the edge of the village and walking up the hill to St Catherine’s Chapel, an iconic part of the skyline in West Dorset. You can also visit the remains of Abbotsbury Abbey nearby, which was built in 1044! Head into the picturesque village itself for lunch, perhaps at the Ilchester Arms. Depending on the time of your and your personal interests, in the afternoon you can visit Abbotsbury Swannery or the Subtropical Gardens, both of which are fantastic attractions. On your way back to the park, you’ll be able to enjoy the coastal views once again, and might even see a fantastic sunset if you’re driving at the right time of day.
