Celebrations at the Dorset Tourism Awards
Thursday the 16th October marked another trip to Weymouth Pavillion for the Highlands End Team, as we enjoyed a fantastic evening at the Dorset Tourism Awards once again. We absolutely love attending these events, as they’re a fantastic opportunity for networking and celebrating with some of the most successful and inspiring businesses from across the county. The Awards celebrate excellence spanning many different areas of tourism – from a wide range of business types such as pubs, cafĂ©s, wedding venues, holiday parks and attractions, to themes including dog-friendliness, accessibility, inclusivity and sustainability. We were in the running for two awards for 2025/2026 and we’re delighted with the results!
Holiday Park Of The Year: Silver
Regenerative Tourism: Bronze
Holiday Park Of The Year – Key Application Points
- We’re proud to offer a wide range of accommodation to suit all families and budgets, with nightly prices per person ranging from ÂŁ14 to ÂŁ139.
- Guests love our location – the webcam of the view from the end of the Park was viewed almost 50,000 times in 2024.
- We’ve recently gone more dog-friendly than ever, allowing up to 3 dogs per booking and increasing the numbers of dog-friendly accommodation.
- We support the local community with a large sponsorship budget and regular fundraising events for a range of charities.
- Our open-all-year policy keeps our Team employed year-round, and brings visitors to the area when it needs it most.
- Our new Foot Golf course is being used by over 6 times as many people than the previous Pitch ‘n’ Putt, including lots of local families and groups.
- We encourage local people to enjoy all our facilities, even thoughout the school holidays.
- We’ve increased our Glamping accommodation options, with new luxury Pods that are available all year round, while still retaining the majority of our camping pitches.
- Our free alpaca meet & greet sessions have been so popular that they are usually fully booked and we regularly have to add more dates.
- The WDLH App, with almost 40,000 downloads, promotes over 275 local businesses and places to visit, and even offers our guests exclusive discounts at some.
- We are actively planning to offer a wider range of activities on-park in the near future, watch this space!
- Many of our guests have been visiting us for decades and now bring their grandchildren to where they holidayed as children themselves.
Regenerative Tourism – Key Application Points
- Our new solar panel development has produced enough power to help us become self-sufficient, and we now export surplus energy, which supports other properties in the area.
- The small area of new panels is predicted to save 47,000kg of C02 per year.
- Nature thrives in our bird boxes, bug hotel, hedgehog house, wildlife lake and wildflower areas which are key points on our family-friendly Nature Trail.
- We’ve added new signage to help guests identify insects and learn about our farm animals, and have hosted educational school visits and farm open days.
- We’re undergoing an extensive rewilding project, with over 6000 trees planted last Winter, and grass species introduced to maximize carbon capture in the soil.
- We’ve upgraded the efficiency of electric vehicle chargers and installed more charge points, and all new equipment and vehicles purchased are electric.
- Our local buying policy encourages spending with other businesses in the area and Martin’s Bar is sourcing more locally than ever.
- Over 90% of our guests opt into a donation which we are allocating to various coastal environmental projects. This follows over ÂŁ130,000 raised previously for the Jurassic Coast Trust.
- We’ve made vast improvements to our accessibility information and considered a wider range of disabilities.
- Fencing a well-used public footpath to West Bay has allowed wildlife by the riverbank to thrive with less disturbance, with rare breeds of birds now breeding in the area. The path is also more useable year-round.
- With our App so frequently downloaded, we were able to order 50% less printed Park maps than in 2024, and many departments have made changes to significantly reduce their paper consumption.
- Our Green Team meet regularly to discuss ways we can operate more sustainably.
The points above are just some of the things we’ve done in the last 2 years to try and be the best we can – for our guests, our team, our communities and our environment. We’re so proud of all our Team members, who work hard in a wide array of jobs, many of which go unseen by our guests. Huge thanks must go to the Dorset Tourism Awards yet again, for organising a fantastic event, and for giving so many incredible businesses the recognition they deserve. Thanks also to the sponsors of our two awards, Tozers and Suez, and to Alycat Glass for the wonderful trophies. Lastly, a thank you to everyone who enjoys spending time at Highlands End – first time campers, families who have been visiting for decades, holiday home owners and the local community around Bridport – your support, custom, recommendations and reviews mean the world to us!
