Colmer’s Hill

Colmer’s Hill is an iconic part of the West Dorset landscape and one of the most recognisable places around. This pretty hill, sitting at 417 feet high, perches above the village of Symondsbury on the edge of Bridport. The hill inspires special affection among the townspeople of Bridport.

The hill has a conical shape with a number of trees at the summit, as well as a trig point and stunning views of the surrounding countryside. From Symondsbury Estate, where there is parking, shops and food, it is a 45 minute stroll (steep to the summit) to the top, where you can enjoy panoramic vistas across the Marshwood Vale, ideal for photo opportunities. Look out for buzzards, rabbits and deer along your walk.

Spring is a great time to visit with the whole hill awash with bluebells and the peak of the hill under the trees is a great place to enjoy a picnic. Dogs are welcome on leads as sheep roam in the fields leading up. The trail is a permissive path created by Symondsbury Estate and parking is free. This really is one of the best views in Dorset and we highly recommend it as a must see on your holiday to Dorset!

Colmer’s Hill is part of our West Dorset ‘Three Peaks’ Challenge, which is a circular 9.3 mile route that takes in 3 of the highest points in West Dorset – Thorncombe Beacon, Golden Cap and Colmer’s Hill.
