Bridport

Bridport is a lively market town situated within easy reach of the West Dorset Leisure Holidays parks. It is often referred to as ‘Notting Hill by the sea’, a phrase which accurately reflects this vibrant town and it’s eclectic mix of independent shops. Bridport has been awarded ‘Beacon Town’ status, which recognises the wealth of high quality and locally sourced food on offer. This delicious food can be sampled in one of the many tasty cafes and eateries dotted throughout the town.

Bridport has a rich history and is known worldwide for its quality rope and net production. Palmers Brewery has been a staple of the town for over 200 years and continues to brew some of the finest cask ales today from its home in the heart of West Dorset.

There is an excellent community spirit in Bridport, which is reflected in the number of events that occur here throughout the year. The famous Bridport Hat Festival is a spectacle not to be missed! Each year thousands gather in quirky hats for a mass photo and party. The Melplash Agricultural Show is also a great day out for all the family.

Bridport markets

Bridport is famed for its markets, which bring a lively atmosphere to the town. On Wednesday’s and Saturday’s the high street is bustling with local producers selling their wares. Here you can find anything from antique jewellery to hand crafted pottery and artwork. On the second Saturday of every month there is a farmers market in the art centre, where there is free range eggs, vegetables grown on a nearby farm as well as a number of other tasty artisan makes. From March to October there is also a vintage market on St Michaels trading estate which happens on the last Sunday of the month.

Arts and music

In the towns arts and vintage quarter you will find an beautiful artwork for sale as well as antiques dealers.  The Electric Palace theatre hosts some of the best names in comedy, music and theatre throughout the year. As you peruse the market stalls you will often be treated to live performances from buskers in Bucky Doo Square, Bridport’s main hub of activity.

Bridport is just a stones throw from West Bay, a picturesque fishing village with an excellent beach.
