Beer

If Devon had a Bermuda Triangle, hidden away inside it would be the seaside village of Beer. It’s off the beaten track but easily accessible. Eighteenth-century smugglers knew how well it was hidden away, with its beach only visible from far out at sea. Beer fishermen knew how the surrounding cliffs protected it from stormy winds, so that they could launch their boats when other fleets were kept onshore.  Surrounded by white chalk cliffs, the shingle beach is lined with fishing boats still bringing in their daily catches and is famous for its mackerel

Beer is a living, breathing community of people who work in the surrounding area and who bring up their families here, and of people who have come to Beer to spend the rest of their lives here. They understand that their active participation in this community helps to keep Beer what it is and always has been – a beautiful place for people to be in. It continually wins awards for its beauty, including a Gold in the “South West in Bloom” awards in 2018.

Local people run the shops and pubs and businesses that are all individual with their own character. There’s food available of all kinds, from fish shops and beach cafés selling sandwiches of locally caught fresh crab that are unforgettable, to restaurants offering world cuisine. Fishing boats, deck chairs, beach huts, pots of tea and Devon cream teas – there’s everything here that you remember about great holidays. With access to the water for dinghies and paddleboards and access to mile upon mile of countryside for walking.
