Fishing Holidays in Dorset
West Dorset Leisure Holidays parks are the perfect base for a fishing holiday in Dorset. Our camping and caravan parks occupy scenic locations along the Jurassic Coastline with easy access to some of the best fishing venues in the UK. The majority of our award-winning parks are just a short walk or drive to Chesil Beach, which has an excellent reputation among sea anglers. Nearby harbours boast an impressive fleet of charter fishing boats and there are some top class coarse fishing lakes close by.
Here we share some of our favourite places to go fishing during your stay at one of our parks. Whether you’re a seasoned angler, or simply want to try angling for the first time, we guarantee you’ll find somewhere to suit your needs and abilities nearby.
Beach fishing in Dorset
Shore fishing is a popular activity in Dorset. Every year visitors from all over the country flock to the Jurassic Coastline to fish our spectacular beaches, rocky outcrops and hidden coves. Chesil Beach is undoubtedly the most popular. In the summer months, you’ll find figures dotted along the shelved shingle bank hoping to catch plaice, rays, gurnard and maybe some mackerel for dinner! During the colder months the beach is still busy with anglers targeting cod and other winter species. Try out Hive Beach, Cogden or West Bexington.
Boat fishing in Dorset
Many guests book a boat fishing trip during a fishing holiday in Dorset. Getting out on the water is great fun, especially when joined by family or a group of friends. Weymouth, Portland and West Bay are renowned among boat anglers. Weymouth recently hosted the European and World Fishing Championships and is known for inshore marks, such as the shambles bank.
Boat fishing trips are suitable for experienced anglers as well as children and complete beginners. It’s a great activity to try during a camping or caravan holiday on the South Coast!
Coarse fishing in Dorset
There are some fantastic lakes within a short drive – perfect for keen coarse anglers visiting Dorset for a fishing holiday. Most offer day tickets and are well stocked with specimen carp, roach, bream and rudd. You can while away a summer day on the banks, enjoying the peace and tranquility and trying to land a personal best. Make sure you familiarise yourself with the rules, as each of the venues will be slightly different. It’s also important to ensure any one over the age of 13 has a valid rod licence from the Environment Agency. Our Golden Cap Holiday Park even has a fishing lake on the park!
