The Donkey Sanctuary

This place is not usually open now.

Open 365 days a year, the Donkey Sanctuary has hundreds of donkeys waiting to meet you in their glorious little corner of Devon!

The donkeys love to meet new people and their unique characters and stories are ready to be explored. Set along the Jurassic Coast, this working farm is home to hundreds of donkeys, mules and hinnies who have been rescued from mistreatment or relinquished into the charity’s care. You can explore the indoor attractions, interactive displays, the exhibition barn, the understanding donkeys zone and the Dr Svendsen’s Hut to learn the story of the sanctuary’s much-loved founder.

Enjoy the great outdoors with scenic farm trails, a nature centre, a farm-themed play area and a maze. There are activities during the school holidays and regular events throughout the year, including junior vet days, a car show, a summer fair, a family food fair and school holiday events. There is a stunning restaurant called The Kitchen and a Gift Shop.  The Sanctuary is open every day of the year. Many of the walkways are grass so appropriate footwear is required and dogs are welcome on leads. Many of the trails are access and bike friendly. Donkey Experience Days are available to go behind the scenes and get up close and personal with the donkeys.

Entry and parking are both free with donations welcome.
