Carey’s Secret Garden

closed now icon This place is not usually open now.

This wild, walled Victorian garden was rediscovered in 2019 and has undergone extensive restoration to re-imagine the gardens for a modern age.

Carey’s Secret Garden is a welcoming space that aims to inspire a return to nature. Created with expertise in Rewilding, Permaculture and Natural Gardening.

Set against the backdrop of the spectacular Isle of Purbeck, Carey’s Secret Garden is hidden behind a beautiful 150 year old, /clayton brick wall. The garden remains a closely guarded secret due to its unique habitat and sensitive wildlife projects. Visitors can expect to see a young and exciting space that they can return to enjoy seeing it grow over the coming years.

Come and explore the Arid garden, Rose Garden, Traditional Orchard,  Wildflower Meadow, Tea and Herb Gardens, Fruit Cage and Veggie Patch. The latest edition is the exciting Stumpery and Foodforest area.

Steeped in history, Carey’s Secret Garden offers a unique passport to traditional garden techniques as well as a very modern focus on issues such as Climate Change and Social justice. Carey’s Secret Garden aspires to be accessible for all and incorporates exciting educational partnerships with regular short courses, events, demonstrations and masterclasses.

The ‘Secret Cafe’ on site serves delicious vegetarian refreshments, the best coffee and there is a selection of lovingly homegrown, zero-waste and peat-free plants for sale.

Careys Secret Garden is open to visitors each Thursday, Friday and Saturday (except for a short closure period in August and over Christmas). Visits are by pre-booking only via the website. For more information please visit the website.
