Touring & Camping FAQs
Information relating to pitches, gazebos, early check in, late check outs, fires, smoking, bad weather and more
Do you have any Seasonal Pitches?
Yes, we have a number of Seasonal pitches for Touring Caravans (or motorhomes) available at Sandyholme Holiday Park in Owermoigne. These are perfect if you like to visit Dorset often or don’t have much space on your drive at home.
Can I bring an awning or gazebo?
Gazebos and awnings are permitted. If adverse weather is forecast, the Park Team will advise if awnings and gazebos need to be taken down.
What are the season dates for touring and camping?
Our season dates vary each year. Go to make a booking to check availability or visit our Opening Dates page to find the most up-to-date information.
Are generators allowed?
No sorry, we do not allow any generators on the park, due to the fire risk and noise disturbance for other guests.
Can I charge my Electric Vehicle (EV) from my accommodation or pitch?
No, electric cars must not be charged on touring hook-ups or from Holiday Homes. The infrastructure is not designed for this purpose, and you will trip the electricity on your pitches and your neighbours. The price for electricity supplied to pitches and accommodation does not cover the charging of cars.
There is an charge of £80.00 to reset a supply which has been tripped by an electric car. Electric car charging points (fees apply) are available at Highlands End, Golden Cap, Graston Copse, Larkfield and Sandyholme Holiday Park. Guests staying at Eype Beach Holiday Park can use the charging points at Highlands End. Find out more here.
What happens in bad weather?
In bad weather, you may be asked to take down windbreaks, awnings or gazebos.
In the event of adverse weather conditions forecast in advance of, or during your stay, we will contact you with any further instructions. You can check the forecast here.
How should I set up my pitch?
In general, you should pitch with your motorhome, touring caravan or tent on the left (when facing the pitch) and your car on the right. It is important to stick to this setup for fire regulations.
Some pitches at Highlands End don’t suit this setup, and alternative pitching layouts are signposted on your pitch.
European vehicles may need to pitch differently – speak to a member of the team if you are in doubt.
In our non-electric camping meadows, you can pitch wherever you like, provided you are at least 3 metres from your neighbours.
Do you offer early check in or late check outs?
Pitches
Late check outs of 1pm are available at our discretion and for a £15 fee. Please visit your Park Reception on-park during your stay to enquire. This is subject to availability and available during low & mid season only.
Accommodation
Please note we do not allow early check ins or late departures in any accommodation. The check in times are rigid to allow cleaning of the accommodation and maintenance of the pitches between guests. The check in time is 4pm and the check out time is 9:30am.
Can I reserve my pitch while I’m off-park?
Yes, you can reserve your pitch while you’re out. Reserved signs are available from the park reception, a £20 refundable deposit is required. Alternatively, many guests choose to leave something of theirs on the pitch, such as chairs, steps or their own sign that clearly indicates that the pitch is taken. Please ensure these are secured and will not be a hazard in windy conditions. Items are left at your own risk.
Can I choose my pitch or accommodation?
Pitches
We do not allocate pitches. All pitches are selected upon your arrival based on what is available. We cannot guarantee pitches next to each other. If you wish to save a pitch for friends/family that are arriving on the same day and pitch type, you are welcome to park a car or put something on the pitch until they arrive. However, as pitches are selected upon arrival, this cannot be guaranteed.
If you worried about losing your pitch while you’re out for the day, reserved signs can be hired from the Park Reception for a £20 refundable deposit.
Should you require a pitch close to a toilet block due to a medical condition or disability, please let us know at the time of booking, or as soon as possible after that. Our Team will do their best to reserve you an appropriate pitch. If this is not possible, we will offer you the option of a full refund before your holiday starts.
Accommodation
Specific accommodation can be reserved. When booking online, select the add-on “Select your exact accommodation.”
Instead of our standard allocation, you’ll be able to choose your specific unit or location (subject to availability at time of booking). Perfect if you want to be next to friends and family, want a particular view or layout, require easy access to facilities, or simply love returning year after year to one particular holiday home.
Once selected and paid, your chosen accommodation is reserved exclusively for you. There is an additional £25 charge per booking for this.
Do you allow barbeques, fire pits, bonfires or fireworks?
Wood burners and fire pits are allowed only when using smokeless fuel and this fuel is available to purchase in the park shops. Fire pits must not be lit in windy conditions, under gazebos, awnings or shelters, or left unattended at any time. There are strictly no open fires permitted on any of our Parks.
Disposable BBQs must be raised off the ground using bricks/slabs, which are available on the Parks and safely located in accordance with any instructions we give you. We do not permit BBQs or fire pits on the decking area of any accommodation.
The use of fireworks and lanterns on the Parks is strictly forbidden
