13 January 2021West Dorset Tourism

Teenagers are notoriously difficult to please during a family holiday. Spending time away from home means more time with mum and dad and leaving friends and games consoles behind! But, fear not, there are a wide selection of attractions suitable for older children within easy reach of our Dorset holiday parks. With so many different activities on offer, we guarantee teens will enjoy every moment of their camping or caravan holiday on the Jurassic Coast.

Here’s our pick of the top things to do in West Dorset for teenagers.

Lyme Bay Rib Charter, West Bay

Enjoy an adrenaline fuelled boat trip along the Jurassic Coast with Lyme Bay Rib Charters. Head out to sea on a state-of-the-art, high-speed rib and experience the beauty of the Dorset Coastline at break neck speeds. The skipper will carry out impressive manoeuvres, including high speed turns and full throttle charges through the waves.
This is the ultimate activity for thrill seekers looking to spend some time on the water during a stay at one of our West Dorset Leisure Holidays parks. The trip lasts a quarter of an hour and covers approximately 6 miles of coastline. Advance booking is recommended but it is sometimes possible to reserve a space on the Quayside.

The Tunnel Treetops, Axminster

Looking up to The Tunnel Tree Tops

Teenagers will love this action-packed, high ropes course at The Tunnel Woodlands near Axminster. The forest lies within an Area of Natural Beauty and offers an afternoon of fun for all the family. There are 11 obstacles, including rope bridges, zip wires and suspended walkways to negotiate as you make your way along the route. Each of the obstacles test different skills and has various elements to overcome. Spectators are free to follow the route at ground level to capture photos as the kids conquer their fears!

Stand Up Paddle Boarding, West Bay

stand up paddling

Stand up paddle boarding is all the rage in Dorset and absolute must during your stay at one of our holiday parks. Join Sara, a highly qualified instructor to master the art of this fun water sports activity whilst experiencing the beauty of the Jurassic Coast. Sara offers a dedicated kids club aimed at improving young people’s water confidence through games and fun activities. There are also one to one lesson’s, guided tours and group sessions available, if all members of the family want to give it a go. If you already have some experience you can hire a board at West Bay’s Middle Beach if you’d prefer.

Jurassic Footgolf, Lyme Regis

As the name suggests, Jurassic Footgolf is a blend of football and golf. Work your way around the course and try to score with as few kicks as possible. Each hole has a par rating so you know what you’re aiming for! This is a fantastic way for young players to hone their footy skills in a fun and innovative way. All members of the family are welcome and we encourage a bit of friendly competition! Choose between the 9 or 18 hole course or pick the unlimited option if you’re feeling keen! There’s even a podium at the end to capture a photo of the winner!

West Bay Canoes, West Bay

Take a guided open top canoe tour along the River Brit with West Bay Canoes. The two-hour trips are a great way to discover lesser-known parts of Dorset and admire the wildlife and scenery. You will be accompanied by an experienced guide who will teach you to safely manoeuvre and turn. Along the two kilometre journey you will travel up stream to a creek near Bridport before making your way back to bustling West Bay.

Rockburn, Bridport

If they’re completely new to the sport they can participate in a taster session, where they’ll learn the tips and tricks needed to manoeuvre across the different walls with ease. There’s also a tasty café on site serving wholesome home-cooked food to refuel after a busy morning climbing.

The Tunnel Target Sports Centre, Axminster
