Today, James met with Peter and Christine Felton, a lovely couple who have been coming to Highlands End Holiday Park since the 1950’s, and who we have written about on this blog a couple of times before.
Peter first visited what was Highlands End Farm in 1955 with his parents, which was long before we came to own it in 1971! The couple also celebrated their honeymoon in 1965 and Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2015 here on the park, with many happy visits in between. Generations of their family have enjoyed regular visits to the park and the Dorset coastline.
We met them today at the end of a 2 week break with their family in one of our 3 bedroom lodges and they presented us with something rather special. Back in the sixties, the drive and original entrance were surrounded by beautiful pink and red wild fuschia bushes, but since then, Highlands has needed a new drive to allow better access for large caravans and the bushes are no longer there. However, Peter and Christine took cuttings at the time and have been growing the plants in their garden ever since. Today they presented us with two young plants, grown from the original cuttings taken here in the 1960’s, for us to replant back where they belong. It’s not time to plant them yet, so we’ll carefully look after them until the spring when we can find somewhere suitable.
Hearing heartwarming stories like this from families who have enjoyed so many happy memories here really puts a smile on all our faces and everyone at West Dorset Leisure Holidays wishes Peter, Christine and their family many more happy holidays here with us.
