Best fish and chips in West Dorset

5 June 2020Weather

No trip to the seaside is complete without a portion of fish and chips sat watching the world go by. Here are just a handful of our favourite restaurants and takeaways in West Dorset to sample during your stay!

Rachel’s, West Bay

Situated in a prime location on West Bay harbour, Rachel’s has earned a reputation for offering some of the best fish and chips in West Dorset. The team serve up a range of locally caught and delicious seafood from a small kiosk next to the boats, where you can sit back, relax and enjoy watching the hustle and bustle of the local fishing fleet landing their days catch.

At Rachel’s shack you won’t just find traditional fish and chips (although this is incredibly tasty!), but a wide variety of locally caught seafood transformed into imaginative and tasty dishes. From mussels, seafood stew and lightly battered mackerel to tempura prawns or brown crab, there is an impressive variety for such a small kitchen!

Lyme’s Fish bar, Lyme Regis

Lyme’s Fish Bar is a must visit during any trip to Lyme Regis, if you’re hoping to enjoy lovingly prepared fish and chips next to the sea. This traditional family run business was first established after the Second World War and has rightfully has earned its place as a firm favourite amongst visitors and locals alike.

The batter recipe has been perfected through the generations and all chips are peeled and sliced on site to ensure ingredients are as fresh as possible. Lyme’s Fish Bar has two sites in the town, one of which offers takeaways and a sit down restaurant, which is the perfect pit stop after a long day exploring the town. The other site is a kiosk on the seafront, where you can grab a takeaway to eat with your legs dangling over the harbour wall.
