Autumn Breaks in Dorset

We think Autumn is one of the best times of year to enjoy a caravan holiday in Dorset. The mild weather is perfect for exploring beauty spots around the county and the scenery looks spectacular as it turns various shades of orange and brown. Even out of season, there are some fantastic things to see and do in the local area. What’s more you can make the most of our off peak tariff and enjoy fantastic savings across our range of self-catering accommodation.

Holidaying in Autumn has many advantages. Here we list just some of the reasons to enjoy an Autumn break on the Jurassic Coast.

Escape the crowds

Dorset often gets busy in the warmer months, so autumn provides the ideal opportunity to see popular attractions in a new light. Without the crowds of summer, you’ll have plenty of time to explore at your leisure and truly experience some of the areas best loved sights. Iconic natural landmarks such as Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, Old Harry Rocks and Chesil Beach have a completely different feel at this time of year. Moody skies and crashing waves make for fantastic photographs.

West Dorset Leisure Holidays parks are ideally situated for guests wanting to explore the great outdoors. On a crisp and blustery day, a bracing walk on the world-renowned Jurassic Coast blows away the cobwebs and promises some unforgettable views. We highly recommend taking a stroll around West Bay Harbour, the Cobb at Lyme Regis or Weymouth beach during your stay. If you’d prefer to venture in land, there are some stunning forests nearby. Don your wellington boots and bobble hats to collect conkers, build dens and play among the trees! Check out the routes we’ve plotted on our WDLH App for some inspiration.

October half term

October half-term is a fantastic time to holiday at one our award-winning parks. Children will love spending time in nature and looking for wildlife as they explore our expansive family friendly grounds.

Of course, the weather is less predictable when holidaying in autumn, but there’s no need to worry – Dorset boasts an impressive selection of rainy day attractions.

You don’t even have to venture off-site to find something to keep younger members of the family entertained. If you’re staying at Highlands End you can make use of our indoor facilities, including a Martin’s Bar & Restaurant, Highlands End Leisure Club with swimming pool, sauna and steam room, and The Little Fire Station Soft Play. Martin’s Bar & Restaurant also hosts a number of Halloween events during Half Term.

Dog friendly holidays

Autumn is the ideal season for a dog friendly holiday. Not only is it cooler, so you won’t need to worry them getting too hot when out and about, but most of the beach restrictions will have been lifted for the year. This means you’ll have your pick of places to explore! For more information on which beaches are dog friendly and when, click here. It’s also easier to bring your four-legged friends to the many dog-friendly pubs in the area when it’s a bit quieter.

We have designated dog-friendly hire accommodation, allowing you to bring up to 2 dogs with you on holiday. All touring and camping bookings can bring dogs with them too!
