Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival
The Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival is a powerful and inspiring celebration of history, community and social justice, held in the village where the famous Martyrs began their story. The Tolpuddle Martyrs were a group of six farm labourers who were arrested and transported to Australia in the 1830s simply for forming a trade union. The weekend brings together music, talks, family activities, food stalls and a warm, welcoming atmosphere that reflects the festival’s strong sense of purpose and heritage. It’s an engaging and thought-provoking day out for visitors, offering a meaningful look at an important chapter in Dorset’s past while still being enjoyable for all ages.
