Moredon Bog

This beautiful corner of Dorset, known as Morden Bog, is famous for its open heathland and bogs where some of England’s rarest wildlife lives. The heathland has insects, reptiles and birds that are rarely found elsewhere and many specialised plants and animals.

There are a number of surfaced tracks around the reserve, as well as pools, waterholes and areas of standing water that are popular with wildlife. In the northern part of the reserve, dry heath areas have a lot of heather, as well as animals such as smooth snakes, sand lizards, nightjar and woodlark birds. Parking is available at the FE Sika Trail car park on Bere Road, north west from Wareham.

Stick to official paths as wet ground can be dangerous, wear long sleeves and trousers in long grass and please keep dogs on leads, due to grazing cattle.

We highly recommend a visit to Moredon Bog when staying at one of the fantastic West Dorset Leisure Holidays parks!
