Lyme Regis Town Mill
This place is not usually open now.
This ancient watermill, set in the artisan quarter of Lyme Regis, was rescued from dereliction by local volunteers, through a ten-year restoration project. Today, the unique and intriguing story of The Town Mill is recounted by our volunteer millers, who mill stoneground wholemeal flour, and keep this special place open for everyone to enjoy. Nestling around a cobbled courtyard, these restored mill buildings house a working flour watermill and shop, as well as an art galley, restaurant, silversmith, seamstress, pottery, seaweed art, design agency, pilates studio and a micro-brewery.
When the Mill is open, you are able to view inside and visit all three floors including the working waterwheel. You can do this self guided and at your own pace. There is lots of information available on the history, restoration and current day working of the Mill and a volunteer Miller will often be available to talk to you during your visit and demonstrate our traditional flour milling process.
There is no charge for a self guided view of the Mill, but donations are encouraged to help us to keep the Mill open and the water wheel turning for visitors to enjoy. There is no need to book, come along to the Town Mill Shop & Mill entrance, located in the courtyard and one of our friendly volunteers will be on hand to welcome you for a look around!
While you are there, you have the unique opportunity to purchase their award winning wholemeal wheat, spelt and rye flours from the shop. The delicious flour is milled regularly on site and stoneground by the trained volunteer millers.
