Planting Trees For The Queen’s Jubilee
As part of our yearly winter maintenance and upkeep of the grounds, and our dedication to sustainability and having a long-lasting, positive impact on the environment, we’ve been planting trees at Highlands End, Golden Cap, Graston Copse and Sandyholme Holiday Parks. Our team have been hard at work in the cold weather and are in the process of planting over 2,700 trees across the four parks!
This impressive figure includes 285 willows, 198 blackthorns (which will produce lovely sloe berries) and 14 oak trees, plus many other species. Most of them are small at the moment, but we can’t wait to watch them grow over the years. As well as being fantastic at taking carbon out of the atmosphere, trees and hedges provide valuable habitats for wildlife and will make the parks even nicer for our visitors and holiday home owners.
We’ve decided to mark these trees as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative, which encourages people from across the United Kingdom to celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 and “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee“. As well as encouraging individuals, groups and corporations to plant trees to benefit future generations, the initiative is also dedicating 70 Ancient Woodlands to be protected and identifying 70 Ancient Trees to mark Her Majesty’s 70 years of service this year. You can see the trees that have been planted on an interactive map – we’ll be adding Sandyholme and Graston Copse once the planting there is underway. We’re looking forward to our commemorative plaques arriving, so that all our park visitors can find out about this fantastic initiative that we’re proud to have been a part of.
Below are some photos of our fantastic maintenance team out working hard in the beautiful South Rye Acres area of Highlands End.
