An Interview With The BBC

In February we were pleased to welcome a small team from the BBC to Highlands End Holiday Park. After a tour of the park and visiting other places in the Bridport area, they recorded an interview with Martin about electric vehicles and how the demand for charging points is something that holiday parks must take into account. Whilst the new technology is promising, it’s something that rural areas have been slower to adopt, due to lack of infrastructure.

We have a number of electric charging points available for park guests and holiday home owners to use – 3 at Highlands End, 2 at Golden Cap and 1 each at Graston Copse, Larkfield and Sandyholme. Each point can charge up to 2 vehicles at once and last year they were upgraded to newer, more efficient models. We frequently get requests from guests and Holiday Home Owners wishing to charge their vehicles from their caravans, however without a major infrastructure overhaul, this simply isn’t possible.

You’ll certainly be able to enjoy a holiday in a rural area if you drive an electric vehicle, however it will require planning ahead, regarding when and where to charge. Those who come from big cities with numerous charging points in any given area perhaps aren’t used to having limited options. It’s clear that more investment in electric vehicle infrastructure is needed in rural areas to support the tourism industry.

The interview was shown this weekend on BBC Politics South, and you can watch the whole episode on iPlayer until the 2nd April 2023. There is also a written article on the BBC News website.
