Tess Frecknall, the Venue Manager of Martin’s Bar & Restaurant at Highlands End Holiday Park has written this week’s blog!

Wow, well what a journey we’ve been on in Martins Bar over the last 6 months!  For those of you who visit us regularly you’ll have seen a lot of new faces as the team grows to keep up with the new all day opening hours, events and the oncoming summer holidays!

Did someone mention football?  Well despite our best efforts we can confirm it didn’t come home…. But we had a few great afternoons and evenings cheering on the England team whilst watching the games on our big screen and 6 other large screen TVs around the restaurant and bar!  What an atmosphere!!!  Bring on Qatar 2022!!!!!

Clotted cream gin teas

Shadowed a little by the World Cup (and absence of Andy Murray) we quietly showed Wimbledon throughout early July – but the highlight of the tournament was our Clotted Cream Gin Teas!!!  Yes, Clotted Cream Gin – our current guest gin – perfect with fresh strawberries and a scone or two – but don’t just take our word for it – we’ll be offering Teas throughout the summer so feel free to pop in any day between 10am and 5pm!

Our Chef team have never been so busy – we’re so pleased to have so many local guests alongside our holiday makers and holiday home owners join us to try our food – we’re getting a great little reputation for offering great meals at reasonable costs.

Every night we offer our full Martins Menu, plus we have a themed special menu every evening – anything from a freshly made curry, to local seafood, to hand-stretched pizzas. And for the holidays we’ve just bought ourselves a big BBQ so we can offer a chef hosted BBQ every Sunday evening from 5pm on our stunning patio overlooking West Bay!

Whoosh and there it was – our brilliant Soft Play Area ‘The Little Fire Station’ landed with us for the Easter Holidays and we haven’t stopped since!!!  Its been super to have so many new faces visit us – big and small – to enjoy the combination of COSTA coffee and entertainment for our youngest visitors. Open everyday 9am until 5pm and open to visitors and locals alike we would love to see you there!

Open every day from 9am Martins Bar and Restaurant has recently had a bit of a re-shuffle.  Now everyday we have our Sports Bar area showing live sports on big screen TVs, our Engine Room featuring Sports TV and Pool Tables, our Soft Play Room, our Bar Areas and of course our lovely Merryweather Restaurant which benefits from those great views, patio and nearby outdoor adventure play area. Our Sports Bar, Engine Room and Patio areas are all dog friendly so no need to leave your buddy back at home – come and enjoy the facilities

Martin’s Bar events

Over the summer we have a number of events including live music nights, children’s discos and entertainment and of course our weekly quiz night and game of chance. As I write this our Jackpot is at £500 for our ‘Crack The Code’ game – anyone over 18 playing the quiz has the chance to win the pot – but you gotta be in it to win it!!!! Quiz from 7.30pm every Wednesday!

I couldn’t not mention Christmas could I!!!  Party bookings now being taken in earnest for the Festive Period – we have party nights, we have Shelbies Elbows and discos, we have formal dining, we have buffets – you name it we can, and probably are, doing it!  For one of the best party venues in the area join us for one of our party nights, with up to 300 guests on a Friday and Saturday night!  Book your group in by calling Tess on 01308 426919 or emailing barmanager@wdlh.co.uk.
