Hambledon Hill

Hambledon Hill is one of the most iconic sites in Dorset, with views over the Blackmore Vale and River Stour in the North Dorset countryside, as well as further afield towards Wiltshire and Somerset.

The hill is a National Nature Reserve and an iron-age hillfort with multiple ramparts. The hilltop is encircled by an iron age earthwork and there are other Neolithic features. It is a site of exceptional archaeological and ecological value, as well as a Site of Special Scientific Importance (SSSI). It is one of the best preserved Iron Age hillforts in the whole of Great Britain and one of the best preserved Neolithic landscapes in Europe. There are many rare species of plant and animal, including as many as 28 different species of butterfly.

For parking, there is a small unsigned lab-by south east of the village of Child Okeford, with space for 4 cars. Alternatively you can park in the village itself and walk up the many footpaths. Dogs are welcome. This is a great spot to enjoy the views and wildlife with a picnic
