South West Tourism Alliance
Yesterday I attended the first meeting of the South West Tourism Alliance as one of the BH&HPA representatives. The Alliance is an industry-led consortium which plans to manage key projects supporting the tourism industry since the closure of South West Tourism at the end of March 2011. The SW Branches of BH&HPA have decided to work together to be able to participate in the Alliance.
The first meeting was very promising and all those present were committed to the future of the industry and ensuring that we meet customer expectations and provide excellent service. We have a challenging time over the next few months and it was encouraging to see that some of the destination management organisations in the South West are starting to emerge with good news from VisitDevon and VisitWiltshire where private and public sector are moving towards working together in one organisation.
In the evening we joined colleagues for dinner at the Portland Heights Hotel to give us the opportunity to look around the hotel and confirm the arrangements for the Best of British Conference in October 2011 which we are helping to host.
Having dinner overlooking the Chesil Beach and coastline at sunset reminded us how lucky we are to live and work in Dorset. I should have taken my camera!!
