A Gold Taste Of The West For Martin’s Bar!

Recently we welcomed judges from the Taste Of The West Awards, and we are now thrilled to announce that we have been awarded GOLD again! 

Taste Of The West is the UK’s largest independent food group, whose mission is to recognise and promote quality food and drink from across the South West of England. Judging focusses on a range of areas including meal quality, commitment to local sourcing, quality of service, atmosphere and value for money. We were given some great feedback across all areas, with the judges saying;

Sourcing locally wherever possible is clearly of the utmost importance to them as a business.

My steak was amongst the best I’ve tasted. Perfectly cooked, with a garlic butter pat. I’m salivating typing this up! The chips were presented crispy and hot, and the simple rocket and parmesan accompaniment meant the steak really earned its spotlight.

We caught up with Harry, our Head Chef, to hear what he had to say about the achievement;

How do you feel about receiving a Gold award two years running?

It’s fantastic. I feel it’s a testament to our team’s commitment and passion to be recognised for this West Country award.

What do you think is unique about running a restaurant on a holiday park that also serves locals?

It’s the best of both worlds: meeting new people and serving regulars, our bread and butter throughout the winter months. Every day is different, bringing a mix of excitement and community spirit.

What do you like about working with local suppliers, and welcoming other catering companies?

Local suppliers mean fresh ingredients and community support. The judges’ comments included that we speak proudly of our local provenance and it’s true – fresh meat from Frampton’s just down the road in Bridport. I am proud to serve a West Country sourced menu. Welcoming other catering companies keeps things fresh and allows for creative collaborations and relationships to build in the future.

What are your favourite things on the menu and why?

Highlights for me include Steak Frites and the Chicago Style Beef Brisket Sandwich. Plus of course the fun we have on a Thursday evening with Steak & Grill Night.

You recently held an event for WDLH Holiday Home Owners, how did it go?

We had a lovely afternoon, fresh scones with jam & cream and a selection of luxury canapes from our trusted suppliers. Along with the usual banter and mild abuse towards our favourite owners!

What are you looking forward to this summer?

More sunny days, and hitting new highs with our specials board, we’ve had lobster, whole fish, lamb shanks and confit duck so far, and we have plenty more ideas coming!
